Turkey Trot to step off in Quitman on Thanksgiving

Posted

If you’re looking for a way to get moving on Thanksgiving Day before sitting down at the dinner table, bring the family to Rock Solid Fitness in Quitman for the third annual Turkey Trot.

Owners Jessica Smith and Brooke Rogers sponsor the event as a way to give back to the community that has supported them.

It’s completely free to join in. They don’t even ask for donations. The walk/run isn’t timed and there are no fancy waivers to sign.

“Keeping it simple and fun works, and there’s no pressure for anyone,” says Smith.

Last year, participation was up to about 40 from less than 20 on the first year, and even more are expected this year.

“It’s a way for people to catch up. People come in from out of town to visit with family, and they come to see friends they haven’t seen in a while,” says Smith. “Last year, we had three generations of a family come together.”

Signups begin at 7:30 a.m. and the walk/run will start at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. A two mile route is mapped out for walkers, and runners can go farther for three miles.

Prizes for first, second and third places are awarded for men, women and children.

Burn calories before pigging out and feel better for the rest of the day.
