Runners, golfer prepare for state meet, tourney
The state high school track and field meet and golf tournament are upcoming in the Austin area.
The Conference 3A track meet is Thursday at Mike Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus Thursday, May 2.
Quitman’s Dakota Jimenez qualified in the 800-meter run after placing third in the regional meet and getting the wildcard slot as the next fastest time among the four regions.
He ran a 1:55.98 at the regional, which is the fourth fastest time among the nine qualifiers. He will be in lane one.
Event order is 3A girls, 3A boys, 4A girls and 4A boys.
The 800-meter is scheduled to begin at 5:20 p.m.
Next up will be Winnsboro’s Camden Capehart in the 100-meter dash at 6:05 p.m. He recorded a 10.69 to win the regional meet and has the fourth best qualifying time. He will run in lane seven.
The Mineola girls 1,600-meter relay team runs at 8:20 p.m. in lane five and includes Raylie Peebles, Carmen Carrasaco, Stephanie Rojas and Olivia Hughes. They won the region in a school-record 4:02.44 and are eighth among the qualifiers.
The Conference 2A meet will be held on Friday, May 3 and includes Amira Meeks from Hawkins in the 800-meter run at 6:40 p.m. and Jentri Evans in the 300-meter hurdles at 7:35.
Bransyn Anderson of Mineola qualified for the girls state golf tournament as a medalist and will tee off at 8 a.m. on the 10th tee on Monday, May 6 at Shadow Glen golf club in Manor. The golfers will be re-paired for Tuesday’s final round.
