The Quitman Bulldogs picked up a non-district baseball win last week beating the Como-Pickton Eagles 13-6. Weston Pence was the winning pitcher, striking out nine batters over seven innings. 

The Bulldogs started things off with a couple of fielder’s choice plays with Payton Sapp connecting with Davis Watson on shortstop and then with a rundown from Watson to Kameran Crockett on the next play. In the bottom of the first, Quitman scored their first run when Watson easily crossed the plate on a wild pitch. The Bulldogs scored again when Sapp grounded into a fielder’s choice scoring Johnny Mullican. 

Como-Pickton finally scored its first run at the top of the fourth inning. Quitman quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth when they scored two more runs to lead 4-1. Pence singled to right field scoring Sapp, and Klayton Meadows hit a sacrifice, scoring Carter Smith. 

The Eagles rallied in the top of the fifth inning, capitalizing on some Bulldog errors, and scored four runs to lead the game 5-4. The Bulldogs managed to tie things up again in the bottom of the fifth inning when Crockett scored on a passed ball. 

The Bulldogs held the Eagles off in the top of the sixth and scored eight runs at their turn at the plate.

Sapp scored first when the Eagle’s pitcher walked Mason Williams with the bases loaded. With the bases still loaded, Crockett pounded out a double to left field, clearing the bases, and bringing the score to 9-5. Crockett and Watson scored on a single to centerfield by Canin Peppers. Peppers scored when Sapp made it to first base on an error. Mullican crossed the plate for the final score on a wild pitch.

The Eagles attempted to rally at the top of the 7th, but managed to score only a single run ending the game with the Bulldogs winning 13-6.
