Quitman Police Report
The Quitman Police Department answered 295 calls for service from July 20 to Aug. 13, issued 137 traffic citations, gave 128 traffic warnings and took 29 reports. One criminal trespass warning was issued and four warrant arrests and 16 on-site arrests were made.
July 20
Officer Jesus Sandoval made a traffic stop in the 400 block of S. Main St. Jiles Jaco was arrested for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
July 21
Officer Cristian Gallegos and Lt. Scott Gallimore made a traffic stop in the 1100 block of E. Goode St. Lindsey Whisenhunt was arrested for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction.
July 24
Officer Joseph Gatewood initiated a traffic stop at McKnight St. and S. Main St. Jason Salas was arrested for driving while license invalid without maintaining financial responsibility and failure to maintain financial responsibility with a previous conviction.
July 25
Officer Gallegos and Lt. Gallimore made a traffic stop in the 100 block of Tomie St. Victor Garcia was arrested for driving without a license.
July 28
Officer Gatewood initiated a traffic stop at East Lane St. and N. Winnsboro St. Leslie Lambert was arrested for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction and failure to maintain financial responsibility with a previous conviction.
July 29
Officer Gatewood initiated a traffic stop in the 100 block E. Goode St. Llewellyn Slayton was arrested for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction and failure to maintain financial responsibility with a previous conviction .
July 31
Officer Sandoval made a traffic stop in the 400 block of S. Main St. Joseph Smith was arrested for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction.
Aug. 3
Officer Victor Taylor was working the Old Settlers Reunion when one of the vendor’s barbecue trailers called Up in Smoke caught fire. Several people and other vendors in the park started to form a type of bucket brigade and put water on the trailer which put out most of the fire. Taylor finished putting the fire out with a fire extinguisher. The owner of the trailer received 1st and 2nd degree burns and was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment. The fire was caused by gasoline igniting at the generator. The owner was treated and released from the hospital.
Officer Gatewood initiated a traffic stop at the corner of East Lane St. and Hart St. Lisa Vielma was arrested for driving while license invalid with previous conviction/suspension without maintaining financial responsibility.
Aug. 8
Officer Gatewood initiated a traffic stop at the corner of Leath St. and S. Main St. Gatewood could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage and asked the driver to perform some standardized field sobriety tests. Severiano Candelario was arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Officer Gatewood initiated a traffic stop in the 600 block of E. Goode St. Jessica Odell was arrested for driving while license invalid without maintaining financial responsibility.
Aug. 9
Officer Gallegos and Lt. Gallimore initiated a traffic stop on S. Goldsmith St. Delani Nissen was arrested for expired drivers license, possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 1-B less than one gram and prohibited substance/items in correctional facility. Nissen also had four outstanding city warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility, no drivers license, failure to maintain financial responsibility 1st offense and driving while license invalid.
Officer Sandoval made a traffic stop in the 600 block of S. Main St. Michelle Morris was arrested for driving while license invalid with a previous conviction.
