March is the time to plan your garden for spring and summer blooms, and the Quitman Public Library has information you need to get ready. Near the front desk is a seasonal display of books, selected by the Quitman Garden Club, with tips for planting, gardening, food preservation and processing. 

There will be no free Federal Income Tax assistance at the Quitman Public Library this tax season, however, printed forms are available here. Call AARP Tax Aid office at 1-888-227-7669 for the nearest free tax preparation site. Public computers, with no time limits, are available at the library.

Photographers of all levels are invited to the “In-Focus Photography Club of East Texas” that now meets every fourth Monday at the Quitman Public Library, 202 East Goode Street. Meet other photographers, share ideas, and participate in photography-related events. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the 6:30 p.m. meeting and workshop.

Cancer Cysters and Breast Friends support group meets in the library’s community room on the last Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. Call 903-850-3978 for more information

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday, 2-4 p.m. in the Thurman Shamburger Community Room. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring their own supplies and join the group for free instruction. Bring your patterns to swap with others. Masks and social distancing are required for this group.

The Wood County TX. Genealogical Society meets each third Monday at 7 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room. Contact David Gilbreath at 972-977-7988 for meeting confirmation and follow the society’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/groups/woocotx. 

Friends of the Quitman Public Library will meet Tuesday, April 13, at noon in the Shamburger Community Room. Friends of the Quitman Public Library is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.

Adult GED support services are available for students who have registered online at www.ged.com. Assistance in reading/writing skills and math is available in the public computer area on Wednesdays during library hours.

Library cards are free to those who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5-17. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
