Quitman Library Connections
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, so stop in and see what the Quitman Public Library has to offer. Patron cards are available for those residents who can provide proof of residence in Wood County and photo identification. A guardian must sign for children ages 5 - 17.
With kids heading back to the classroom, the library is highlighting online resources that are especially helpful for students and teachers. A variety of tools for homework help can be found on our website under the Youth Connection and Reference tabs. Exclusive online resources can be found in the TexShare® Databases accessible within the library’s website at www.quitmanlibrary.org . Call 903-763-4191 for log-in information.
The 2nd Friday Acoustical Jam is Friday, Sept. 13 from 6-9 p.m. Musicians of all ages and musical levels are invited. There will be an open mic set-up for performers. Listeners are always welcome. This is a free event. For more information, call 903-975-5745.

Knitting and crochet instruction class meets each Thursday 2-4 p.m. in the library’s main gallery and is taught by Rebekah Yeager and Virginia Hoffpauir. Students of all ages and skill levels may bring supplies and join the group for free instruction.
Online GED test preparatory registration and course assistance is available on Thursdays (language arts) and Fridays (mathematics) from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Notary service is available at the library during regular business hours, but to guarantee an appointment, call 903-763-4191.
QPL Story Time resumes Thursday, Sep. 26 at 2 p.m. Terri Bennett plans exciting and educational story hours geared for young readers. Home-schooled students are welcome.
The Friends met Tuesday, Sept. 10 at noon for an hour of fellowship and fun. You may sign up for the monthly Friends of the Quitman Public Library Newsletter or obtain more information about becoming a member by contacting Rebekah Yeager at 903-763-4191. Friends is an active group of volunteers dedicated to the growth and improvement of the library.
The Wood County TX Genealogical Society meets Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 p.m. in the library’s Shamburger Community Room. The society gathers for a pre-meeting social dinner at Peralta’s Mexican Restaurant in Quitman at 6 p.m and invites newcomers to fellowship. The society’s Facebook page is facebook.com/groups/woocotx.
