• The collection of hay samples for the Hay Show is taking place tomorrow at Lester Cole Show Arena in Mineola between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday.

• A cookout for law enforcement and other first responders will take place at Gov. Jim Hogg Park in Quitman Thursday from 6 – 8 p.m. The public is invited to go and express their appreciation.

• There will be a book and gift fair at East Texas Medical Center Quitman in the Education Room Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Proceeds benefit ETMC Hospital Auxiliary scholarships.

• Quitman schools are hosting a Back to Blue night Thursday from 5-6:30 p.m. It’s a chance to store supplies, meet staff and tour the building.

• Taste of East Texas will be held at the Mineola Civic Center from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday and tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children with a silent and live auction. Tickets are available at Bryan Hughes’ office, from members of Republican Women of Wood County and at the door.

• School starts Monday in Mineola, Quitman and Alba-Golden schools. Be sure and be watchful for the busses stopping for the children.

• Hawkins school will host Meet the Teacher night Monday starting at 5:30 p.m. at the elementary school and 6 p.m. for the middle and high schools.
