Quitman Bulldogs defeat Winona
The Quitman Bulldogs hit their way to a 9-4 district win over Winona March 26.
Tommy Drinkwine pitch-ed a masterful game, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out 13 Wildcat batters and giving up one walk. Weston Pence came on to pitch the seventh inning and recorded a save.
The Bulldogs took a 3-0 lead in the third inning and added three more in the top of the fifth, led by the hitting of Justin Matthews and Carson Dickens to lead 6-0.
The Bulldogs scored two more in the top of the sixth inning to go up 8-0. Winona scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to close the gap to 8-3. Quitman added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning while Winona added one more run as the Bulldogs prevailed.
The Bulldogs fell to Harmony in another district contest 15-3 last week. The Bulldogs are 2-4 in district action heading into the final six games of the year over the next three weeks.
