QDC approves changes in plans for new hotel

Posted

Plans for a hotel and apartments off Goldsmith St. due south of Brookshire’s Grocery in Quitman were approved for some changes by the Quitman Development Corp. (QDC) Monday.

Plans for the development were announced in September 2022 including two financial incentives from the QDC, one for each part of the project.

Monday’s changes include expanding the area planned for apartments from eight to 10 acres with the same incentives, transferring the hotel agreement to another location not yet determined and providing a 90-day hold to developers Scott Johnson and Deborah Bacon for a lot in the Quitman Business Park for further research and due diligence.

The project was initially announced for groundbreaking in 2023.

The board decided to reconsider previous documents regarding strategic planning. They will come back in January to reassess previous and new strategies.

President Martha Scroggins also took a moment, on behalf of the QDC, to thank the Chamber of Commerce for the general success of Quitman’s Hometown Christmas event.
