Four months after a devastating fire destroyed the historic clubhouse of the Mineola Country Club, its stockholders have approved plans for a new facility.

Plans presented at a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 19 resulted in overwhelming approval to rebuild on the site off W. Loop 564.

The Aug. 21 fire left the clubhouse in shambles that included a restaurant, bar and pro shop.

Michael Cain, who will manage the project for the club, said construction could begin as soon as February and should take about nine months to complete.

Plans call for a facility of just under 6,800-square-feet, about the same footage as the old clubhouse, but with more outdoor deck and patio space under roof for a total of 9,000-square-feet.

The new building will have the advantage of all being on one level and will be fully ADA compliant.

There will be three front entrances, one for the restaurant/venue and one for the pro shop on either side of the main covered entryway, which will be near the former entry spot.

Restrooms adjacent to the pro shop will have direct access to the outside as well as interior entrances for easier access for golfers.

There will also be a set of restrooms between the restaurant and the bar.

The club reopened soon after the fire using a travel trailer until a facility could be constructed adjacent to the swimming pool that serves as the temporary pro shop and bar.

Its future use has not been determined, with several possibilities from a members cart barn to an entertainment venue.

The club was fully insured, and insurance proceeds are expected to cover most of the construction costs.
