Panthers post 1-2 mark in Hawkins tournament
Gladewater scored four runs in the first inning, answered two Alba-Golden runs in the top of the third with three and pulled away with six in the fourth for a 13-2 victory over the Panthers in the Hawkins baseball tournament last Thursday.
Kason Trimble and Easton Campbell each had two hits among eight for the Panthers.
Gladewater had just six hits but drew several walks and got some timely hitting.
Landon Green threw two and two-third innings and struck out four for Alba-Golden, and Micah Smith got an inning of work.
The Panthers withstood a five-run rally in the final inning to defeat Como-Pickton 13-9 on Friday.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first and 3-2 in the second, Alba-Golden plated five runs each in the third and fourth innings. Each team added a run in the fifth.
The Panthers recorded 12 hits to Como-Pickton’s five.
With two apiece were Easton Campbell, Tyler Perez and Boedy Baker. Hatch Campbell drove in three runs and Perez and Jayden Green two each.
Aaron Graham pitched five innings and struck out nine.
On Saturday Linden-Kildare got past the Panthers 7-4. Alba-Golden plated a run in the second only to see Linden-Kildare take a 3-1 lead. Another run in the third was answered by two more, making it 5-2. The lead went to 7-2 after six before Alba-Golden rallyied with a pair in the seventh.
The Panthers had six hits while giving up seven.
Jayden Green had two of those while Nick Hallman drove in two runs.
Chelton Cook struck out five in four innings on the mound.
