Panthers continue baseball dominance

The Alba-Golden Panthers took care of business last Friday by posting an 11-0 win over the Cumby Trojans. The win came on the heels of a 3-2 Alba-Golden win at Cumby earlier in the week.

The Panthers took the win last Friday by employing familiar tactics: quality pitching, timely hitting and solid defense.

Conner Gibson got the nod for the Panthers, and he had another good outing. He gave up three hits, struck out six and issued no free passes. Most impressive was his excellent pitch placement throughout the game.

At the plate, seven Panthers recorded base hits. Easton Campbell, Conner Gibson, Michael Lacy and Boogie Trimble each contributed two base hits.

Alba-Golden got off to a quick start, putting up three runs in the first. A Lacy single, a Campbell sacrifice fly and a Cumby error featured in the scoring.

A Gavin Dailey walk, a Trimble double, a Glen Hartley sacrifice fly and a Campbell RBI-single (hit sharply through the right side) combined for two more runs in the second.

Alba-Golden notched four more runs in the third. RBI singles by Lacy and Campbell provided the timely offense. In the fourth Alba-Golden put the first two batters on base. They were pushed across on a Gavin Dailey sacrifice fly and a Boogie Trimble single through the left side.

The steady offensive production and the great work on the mound overshadowed the fact that Alba-Golden committed no errors in the field.

They handled nine put-outs in the field with the infield and outfield putting in sound fundamental games.

Friday the Panthers host Como-Pickton before closing out their district season April 18 at Saltillo.
