On May 3, Mineola school invites all families and persons who speak Spanish to attend and participate in their celebration.

This is the second year of holding the event, which is called the “Fiesta de Mayo.” The function will have many kinds of entertainment. The entire night’s events will be held in Spanish, including the materials distributed by the organizations. And what’s more, some students from Mineola’s high school floral design club are going to provide fun activities for the kids to participate in while their parents are investigating the information.

After all this, the kids and parents come back together, and the school will give a dinner for the entire family; at this time some dancers will perform. They will also be giving out door prizes such as gift cards.

“We are always excited about welcoming our Spanish-speaking families to our district,” says Annette Pecorino, the ESL coordinator for the high school. “We want them to feel comfortable, we want them to know that we are approachable by them, and (that) we can help them in any way we can.”

There will also be a few speeches given by organizations present at the meeting. These organizations include the Educational Service Center Region 7, a Baptist church, a voter registration organization, the Texas Workforce Commission, a representative of an ESL class for adults, and more.

These things are for those who maybe “don’t know where to go, or who to call,” Pecorino says. 

So, she says, they gather all these services together, so that the people have “all the information that they need.”

“We need to bring these Spanish-speaking families in here, and I want them to feel comfortable here, and I want them to have a night for them – just to ask any kind of questions, or get information,” she says.

The event will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Mineola middle and primary school cafeteria.

En el tres de mayo, la escuela de Mineola quiere invitar todos las personas o familias que hablen español ir y participar en su celebración.

Este es el segundo año de tenido el evento, cual se llama “Fiesta de Mayo”. La función tendrá muchos tipos de entretenimiento. Todo de este noche será en español, incluyendo los materiales distribuidos por las organizaciones. Y lo que es más, algunos estudiantes de secundaria de un grupa de diseño floral van a proveer algunas actividades divertidas por los niños mientras sus padres están “investigado la información.”

Después de todo esto, se reunirán los niños y los padres, y la escuela dará un cenando por toda la familia, y algunos bailarines representarían. También darán premios de puerta, como tarjetas de regalo.

“Siempre estamos entusiasmados a acogedor nuestras familias hispanohablantes a nuestro distrito,” dice Annette Pecorino, el coordinador de ESL de la escuela. “Queremos que sientan confortable, queremos que ellos sepan que estamos abordables por ellos, y podemos ayudarlos en cualquier manera que podamos.”

También tendrán unos pocos discursos dado por organizaciones presentes en el evento. Estos se incluyan el Centro de Servicios de Educación Región 7, una iglesia Bautista, una organización de registro de votación, el Comisión de la Fuerza Laboral de Texas, un representante por una clase de ESL por adultos, y otros.

Estas cosas son para ellos que quizás “no sepan dónde ir, o quién llamar,” Pecorino dice. Entonces, ella dice, ellos reúnen todos estos servicios, entonces las gentes tienen “toda la información que necesitan.”

“Necesitamos traer estas familias hispanohablantes aquí, y quiero que sientan confortable aquí, y quiero que tengan una noche para ellos – para preguntar todo tipo de pregunta, o recibir información,” ella dice.

El evento será por 6 hasta 7:30 p.m. en la cafetería de la escuela de Mineola secundaria y primaria.
