Mineola P&Z approves storage units
The Mineola Planning and Zoning Commission approved three recommendations for property on S. Pacific St. that includes the longtime Goggans Tire center, now Strange Tire and Alignment.
Owner Jesse Strange is seeking to put in storage facilities.
He has requested that 9.8 acres behind the tire shop be rezoned from single family to commercial, that a specific use permit be issued to operate mini warehouses, and that the two acres on which the tire shop sits be subdivided so that he can sell the shop and use the remaining property for the storage buildings.
Strange said he plans 200 units in the first phase.
He noted that the new houses and apartments just across Hwy. 69 will create a demand for storage units.
The units will be mostly out of view, behind the tire shop, which will have an entry drive along the north edge of the property.
No one spoke at either public hearing on the matters, but one email response was received from Ron Reese, for the residential property on the north side.
His concerns included increased traffic, security and privacy.
The property will have a security fence. The commission opted not to require a privacy fence.
The city council will take up the recommendations at its meeting Sept. 18.
