September has started off with well-attended new programs. Thank you, everyone who attended our programs. We had a good time and hope you did, too. Our programs are free to attend and participate.

Just a quick review, on the first Tuesday of the month is the Book It book crafting event at 2 p.m. followed by the First Tuesday After School Club at 4 p.m. These only occur once a month. October’s activity will have pumpkins made from re-purposed books for the book craft and something spidery and slightly spooky for the after-school activities.

Every Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. is Toddler Story Time for children 18 months to 3 years with a parent to hear a story, do an activity and play together to develop social skills and hopefully friendships.

Every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. is Preschool Story Time for 3 to 5 year olds and their parent or caregiver in a more structured environment with stories and activities related to the stories.

The second Saturday of the month is the American Girls Historical Reading Club. September’s meeting learning about Kaya and what kind of schooling she might have experienced was full to capacity. Just a reminder to reserve your spot as soon as you can.

Oct. 8 the children will learn about Felicity from 1774 and what her education might have looked like. Spots must be reserved for Felicity by Oct. 6 by calling the library at 903-569-2767.

The Friends of the Library will host their monthly book sale at 1721 N. Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 17 beginning at 9 a.m. This is dependent on weather conditions and volunteer availability. Watch their Facebook page for information.

Finally a great big hooray! We were one of the recipients of a Texas Book Festival Grant for $2,500!  With this money we are adding many non-fiction titles in areas we were needing to fill, Vox audio books for children with the recorded book embedded in the actual book complete with page turn indicator sounds, and some large print titles for our beginning readers who may need a larger font to help their reading efforts. Watch for these new additions to our library collection. They can be spotted in displays or with the purple sticker “Texas Book Festival Grant 2022.”

Please, remember, the Mineola Memorial Library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donation may be tax-deductible.
