May Fiesta to fill downtown Saturday

Celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture in Cinco de Mayo fashion is the purpose of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fiesta de Mayo (May Fiesta) community event scheduled Saturday, May 4 in historic downtown Mineola.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and stretch from Johnson St., E. Blair St. and Peterson Park to the north, down to Commerce St. and the gazebo area to the south. The day’s highlights include:

• More than 45 artisan and food vendors

• A large classic car show benefitting the Mineola Chamber of Commerce

• Dallas’s own Mariachi Real band

• Selena tribute performance

• Aztec and Folkloric Dancers

• Piñatas for the kids

• Beer Garden benefitting the Mineola Chamber of Commerce

• Salsa making and pepper eating contests and much more

“In celebrating Hispanic heritage and culture, Fiesta de Mayo is not just a festival, it’s a vibrant tapestry of tradition, music, and community spirit that enriches our hearts and bonds us together,” said Kelsie McGilvray, chamber president. “Join us in this unforgettable celebration and experience the fiesta firsthand!”

“Thousands of visitors have descended on Mineola the past several years to enjoy our unique celebration of Hispanic heritage and culture in a festival setting,” said Silvia Reyes, board member and event co-chair. “Every year we try to make it an event that all East Texans can support and enjoy.”

The mini-train at Iron Horse Square will also run that day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. And the Mineola Farmers market will open that morning at 8 a.m. for the first time in 2024.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
