Man sentenced 35 years for officer assault
A Wood County jury convicted Enrique Raymon Tuner of McKinney of assault causing bodily injury of a police officer on Wednesday, March 6 in 402nd District Court in Quitman.
He was sentenced to 35 years in state prison, with 540 days credit for time served.
He was also assessed a $7,500 fine and $290 court costs.
According to Wood County District Attorney Angela Albers, on the late evening on Sept. 14, 2022, Wood County Sgt. Jaclyn Skinner, Deputy Sam Mayer, and Deputy Dakota Hughes were investigating a disturbance involving concerns of an “armed and dangerous individual” trespassing at Holiday Villages at Lake Fork. The officers located Turner in the area and arrested him for criminal trespass.
During the arrest, Turner became violent and combative, resisting the officers and shouting countless profanities, Albers said.
During the officers’ attempts to place Turner in their patrol vehicle, Turner began kicking at the officers and kicked Skinner twice, causing her severe pain. Turner also spit on Hughes.
Turner was arrested for the assault on the officers, a second degree felony. He was indicted on Nov. 30, 2022.
He was also arrested for aggravated perjury, criminal mischief $100-$750, criminal trespass, resisting search or transport and terroristic threat (two counts).
He was indicted for the perjury charge on June 28, 2023, which is a third degree felony.
Turner has also been indicted in Collin County for assault of family/household member with previous conviction on Sept. 29, 2022.
“This conviction and sentence send a loud and clear message that Wood County will protect its officers and any threats or assaults against them will not be tolerated,” said Albers. “The individuals who choose to do so will be prosecuted by my office to the fullest extent of the law.”
Albers was assisted by Logan Sawyer and Patrick Daley.
