Lady Panthers set higher expectations
The first comment from Alba-Golden head volleyball coach Jamie Webster pretty much summed up her thoughts for the 2023 season, “We are enhancing our expectations across the board.”
She related that they will be teaching and employing graduate-level tactics in all technical aspects of the game.
The Lady Panthers have several characteristics which should provide a prolonged season for the squad.
Arguably, they have the most athletic group in the district and feature a good mix of experienced upper classmen and eager youngsters. Roster consistency will be a big plus for the squad this year.
Webster has also tweaked the pre-district schedule, dropping one tournament. She related that playing two, versus three, tourneys will help the team to focus on opening district play.
The Lady Panthers will be playing in the Hughes Springs and White Oak tourneys.
“That line-up will give us great exposure to quality volleyball while allowing us to focus on district,” she stated.
Webster shared one of the most reassuring aspects of the Lady Panther volleyball program – cohesiveness. From game day meals to informal team sessions, the time spent together builds confidence in one another’s abilities and commitment.
The coach closely follows three collegiate programs: TCU, TAMU and UT. She uses specific training clips from these programs to illustrate learning points with individual players.
“We try to show our players that there is a reason for everything we ask them to do on the court,” she explained.
With a renewed focus on meeting team objectives to start district play, the Lady Panthers will be primed for another great run in 2023.
