Lady Panthers end Como-Pickton streak
The Alba-Golden Lady Panther softball team extracted a measure of revenge on Friday and in the process put an end to a 44-game district winning streak by Como-Pickton, ranked fourth in the state.
The 5-1 victory evened the two squads at the top of the district standings at 4-1, setting up a potential tiebreaker when the regular season concludes April 16.
The Lady Panthers had lost to the Eagles on March 19, 3-1, with just a couple plays deciding the outcome.
It looked to be another nail-biter as Alba-Golden broke on top 1-0 in their first at bat.
After three scoreless innings, Como-Pickton tied it with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Alba-Golden inched ahead with a run in the sixth, 2-1, and then made it more comfortable with three more runs in the seventh.
Alba-Golden hosted Detroit on Tuesday and is at Saltillo on Friday. Fruitvale will be in town on Tuesday, April 9.
