Quitman Lady Bulldogs got a big win against the Winona Wildcats 19-3  Friday, April 12.

They remain in the playoff hunt with a 5-5 district record with two games to go. They traveled to Harmony Tuesday and wind up the season hosting Winnsboro Friday. A win over Harmony would have guaranteed post season play.

Prior to the game, Quitman honored their five graduating seniors: Kennedi Elmore, Hannah Holland, Addison Marcee, Ashley Davis and Kylee Harris. Elmore was injured the prior week but managed to pitch the first out of the game before handing the ball over to Harris.

The Wildcats earned a run in the first inning on a fielder’s choice when catcher Larkin Spears threw out the batter at first base. Quitman then took charge at the plate, scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ashley Davis first lit up the scoreboard with a double to second base that scored Holland and Marcee, who got on base on walks. Spears singled to second base, scoring Davis. Peyton Kruckner hit a fly ball to right field, scoring Chloe Jones. Alexis Frazier hit a sacrifice ground ball to third base scoring Spears. With bases loaded, Allie Berry knocked a hard fly ball to center field and scored an inside the park homerun to make the score 8-1. Marcee scored again on a wild pitch and Davis scored on a passed ball to end the inning 10-1.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to take advantage of the Wildcats in the bottom of the second inning when they scored six more runs that included a double by Kylee Harris that scored Kruckner and Frazier. Harris stole home plate. Spears, Marcee and Holland crossed the plate on passed balls.

Winona continued to struggle on the mound in the third inning resulting in Spears, Harris and Kruckner scoring on passed balls and errors. Winona managed to score two more runs in the fourth inning but was no match for the Bulldogs. The game was called on the 10-run rule.
