Lady Bulldogs race to big lead in victory over Grand Saline
The Quitman Lady Bulldogs raced to a first quarter 15-0 advantage over Grand Saline and went on to gain a 58-26 victory over the visiting Lady Indians Nov. 23.
In the first quarter Maddy Pence hit a pair of triples while post Reiny Luman hit four points to lead the way to the early edge. Grand Saline got their first points with 6:13 left in the second quarter followed by a three-pointer, making it 15-5.
Quitman came right back on a triple and a lay-up by Kaysi Parker to make it 20-5. It was definitely Parker’s quarter as the junior post hit for 12 points in the frame and led Quitman to a 30-8 lead at intermission.
The Lady Bulldogs continued their relentless defense which forced Grand Saline into several mistakes and turnovers. Quitman took a 47-16 lead going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter Pence added a two-point floater down the lane and another trey while freshman Allie Berry added a steal and score making it 54-19. Quitman coasted to the final buzzer.
Parker led the Lady Bulldogs with 22 points followed by Pence with 19.
After a home game Nov. 30 against Grace Community of Tyler, the Lady Bulldogs will not be at home again until the start of district play Dec. 14 against Mt. Vernon.
