Lady Bulldogs advance to final
After opening the season with a disappointing 3-1 loss to Cumby, the Quitman Lady Bulldogs volleyball team bounced back with a solid performance at the Union Grove Tournament over the weekend.
In pool play the Lady Bulldogs roared past Ore City 25-6, 25-10 followed by beating host Union Grove 25-16, 25-13.
In their final pool play game Quitman dominated Cumberland Academy 25-8, 25-15.
The 3-0 pool play record put the Lady Bulldogs in bracket play where they defeated Queen City 25-22, 25-13 behind UT-Arlington commit Ava Burroughs who had 10 kills, a block, an ace and two digs. Alexis O’Neal added eight digs for Quitman and Brooklyn Marcee had an ace, three kills and two digs.
The Lady Bulldogs ended the tournament run losing to district rival Harmony 20-25, 21-25. Burroughs had 15 kills, five digs and two aces while Carley Spears added a pair of aces, 16 assists and five digs.
After a Tuesday home game against Big Sandy, the Lady Bulldogs will head to Wills Point for another tournament.
