2021 Mineola graduate Abeni Kratzmeyer wrapped up her first NCAA track and field championship appearance with an eighth place showing in the women’s pole vault at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Minnesota last week. She also earns first team All-American honors.

The event started at a height of 3.80 meters (12.467 feet), and Kratzmeyer cleared that mark in her first try. Just two athletes were eliminated on that mark, and the bar moved to 3.95 meters (12.959 feet), where she took two attempts, but cleared that mark as well.

That height eliminated all but 15 athletes and the bar was adjusted to 4.05 meters (13.287 feet). That is just .01 meters below the school record mark set by Kratzmeyer, and she made it look easy as she cleared it in just one attempt. Five more athletes failed to clear that height to limit the field to the final 10 women.

The height was adjusted to 4.15 meters (13.615 feet), and would set a new school record and Lone Star Conference record if Kratzmeyer were to clear it. She took all three attempts but was unable to clear that mark.

She settled into eighth place overall at her first NCAA Championships. Kratzmeyer also becomes the highest finisher among Lone Star Conference competitors in the event.

For Kratzmeyer, this wraps up a spectacular freshman season. She is the school record holder in the indoor and outdoor pole vault. She owns the Lone Star Conference meet record and record among all Lone Star Conference athletes at any event in the outdoor pole vault.
