A second man has been indicted on charges relating to the dog burning case that occurred last year in Quitman.
On Jan. 29, Richard Townley Jr., 44, of Quitman was indicted for cruelty to a non-livestock animal by a Wood County Grand Jury. Townley was allegedly involved in the case where two dogs were burned in a pit, along with several metal bands from old tires, on April 2, 2012.
The incident occurred on County Road 2174 in the Clear Lakes area. Deputies reportedly found the burned carcass of a medium-sized dog in the pit. A second dog managed to escape the fire. That dog sustained third degree burns over 40 percent of its body.
Wood County District Attorney Jim Wheeler would not say what exactly Townley's involvement was in the case, stating he "cannot comment on the discussions made by the grand jury or the circumstances of the case."
Townley's bond was set at $25,000 and he remains in the Wood County Jail.
