Jewell LaVerne Norman Freeman 1933-2023

Jewell LaVerne Norman Freeman of Quitman, born July 8, 1933, went to be with The Lord on Sept. 24, 2023. She died peacefully in her home.

LaVerne grew up in Chickasha, Okla. and was the youngest of three sisters.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Chester A. Norman and Ella J. Cox of Chickasha, Okla. and by her sisters, Margie Jane Young of Dallas and Martha Joy Jex of Ogden.

LaVerne was a rancher, a homemaker, a wife and a dedicated mother and grandmother.

She leaves behind two daughters, Vanessa Brooks of Kemp and Michele Freeman of Quitman, along with five grandchildren: Caleb Click, Stephanie Norris (deceased), Faith Click, Elijah Click and Colton Clemmo; four great-grandchildren, Maddeline, Cazlyn, Conrad and Calvin.

LaVerne loved the Bible, the Cowboys and time with her family. She will be deeply missed. Services to be held at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville, Ave. in Dallas on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. Viewing from 1-2 in the Wildwood Chapel. Graveside service to follow.

Special Olympics returns in style

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
