Jackets break away from Winona
Mineola recorded its opening district win last Monday with a 69-41 victory over the visiting Winona Wildcats.
The Yellowjackets took great advantage of a frantic pace of play in the opening quarter to build a 12-point lead at the quarter break. That pace of play was only amplified in the second quarter which saw the Yellowjackets double their lead before the half.
Winona steadied themselves at the half and put together a nice offensive showing in the third quarter, but Winona could not slow the Mineola offense.
The Yellowjackets pushed the ball hard most of the night and finished strongly at the basket. They received great work from the wings by Caden Rupert and Zane Strange to complement the dominant inside play of Braydon Alley and the driving baskets of Keke Martin. Freshman Aidan Shepherd and Braelyn Geremonte also provided valuable minutes in the win.
The Jackets next home game is Jan. 5 vs. Winnsboro.
