Early voting begins Monday, April 22 for a handful of Wood County city and school elections to be held May 4.

The city of Mineola, Mineola ISD, city of Hawkins and city of Winnsboro have contested seats.

Mineola voters will choose one city council member and one school board member.

Crystal Arcand has challenged Cassandra Sampson, two-term incumbent for Ward Three on the Mineola council. The Ward One and Ward Two seats are uncontested and will be filled by former council member Polly Jones and Jimmy Alexander, respectively.

The two-year unexpired term on the Mineola School Board drew two contestants, Lina Ortega and Tony Forsyth. The two seats for full three-year terms will be filled by incumbent Jay McGough and Jeffrey White.

Winnsboro voters have four candidates for two city council seats: CJ Thatcher, Jim Hollowell, Stephen Boorman and Richard “Randy” Parrish.

Early voting in those elections will be conducted by the county elections department at the office in Quitman, 200 W. Bermuda St. It will be held April 22-26 and April 29-30 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city of Hawkins has one contested city council seat.

That early voting is conducted by Hawkins ISD at the administration building, on the same dates. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. except for April 22 and April 30, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Deb Rushing is unopposed for mayor and has already been appointed to that position.

Meredith Hancock is unopposed for Place One. Place Three incumbent Eric Maloy is challenged by Norma Oglesby.
