Funeral services for Dorothy Mae Ott, 89, of Mineola were Friday, Feb. 1 at First Baptist Church in Mineola with Dr. Mark Neeley conducting. Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 at Springlake Cemetery in Springlake, Texas.
Mrs. Ott died Sunday, Jan. 27 in Tyler. She was born on July 4, 1929, in Rosebud, Texas to the late Carl McClain and Nora McClain. After growing up on black land farms in the Temple area, Dorothy moved with her new husband, Bob, to the dusty High Plains area, where they farmed and raised a family near Springlake, Sunnyside and Dimmitt. In 1978 they sold the farm and “retired” to East Texas.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mineola. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ott; a brother, Charles McClain; a newborn brother and sister; parents, Nora and CW McClain, and one great-grandchild, Isabella.
She is survived by a son, Don M. Ott of Granbury; daughter, Peggy Gooch of Dallas; siblings, Martha Cook of Temple, Eugene McClain of Benbrook, Irene Thornton of Waco, Gladys White of Temple, Velma Jackson of Haltom City; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of East Texas.
