Dale “Papadale” Cobern 1935-2023

Services for Dale “Papadale” Cobern, 88, of Grand Saline were scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Roundflat Pentecostal Church, with Bro. Homer Morgan officiating, under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Burial was to be in Woodside Cemetery.

Mr. Cobern went to his Heavenly Home, July 23, 2023 in Grand Saline. He was born June 19, 1935 in Kinderhook, Ill. to James Alfred and Ellen Florine Leeds Cobern. Dale was raised in Illinois, where he graduated from West Pike High School, Class of 1954. After high school, he moved to Texas and attended Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie. Cobern got into the restaurant business with 15 Dairy Queen locations in the East Texas and North Texas area. He later opened Ranchero Restaurant in Grand Saline, Canton, Mineola, Quitman, Winnsboro and Big Sandy and Papadales Grill in Canton, Grand Saline and Quitman.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Claire Cobern; infant son, Jory Todd Cobern; four brothers; and one sister.

Survivors include his two sons, Parkey Cobern and wife Rhonda of Fort Worth and Brad Cobern and wife Sandy of Grand Saline; step-daughter, Elizabeth Adrian and husband Santos Rodriguez of Grand Saline; four sisters, Patti Cobern of California, Linda Williams of Missouri, Judy Swenson of Oklahoma and Donna Lockerman of Missouri; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The family received friends at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church before the service.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
