Club offers brain health course to students

First and second graders at Quitman, Alba-Golden and Yantis schools were treated recently to BrainMinders™, a signature curriculum of Pilot International.

This community outreach program, presented by the Pilot Club of Quitman, included educational and entertaining lessons covering a broad spectrum of brain health tips and other important safety topics.

Some 193 first graders were gifted a bicycle helmet and rode a bicycle through a safety course, earning a completion certificate. 189 second graders were entertained by a lively puppet show that included skits about  brain, bus, playground, seat belt, fire and gun safety, as well as anti-bullying. They took home coloring pages and lesson materials.

The programs were presented over the course of two days; May 16 for Quitman and May 17 for Alba-Golden and Yantis.

“This is one of the most enjoyable and significant volunteer projects that our club produces each year,” said Susan Ukleja, club’s president. “The children are eager to learn and have so much fun while taking to heart some critical safety messages. I wish all of our wonderful supporters and patrons could see the joy and the brain spark this program ignites. We could not have this event without the support of our patrons. All of them share in the success.”

The Quitman Pilot Club is a charitable non-profit service group dedicated to improving the lives of people in the communities of Quitman, Alba and Yantis, within the mission, scope and guiding principles of Pilot International in three areas: brain safety & fitness, supporting youth and caring for others.
