After losing to Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill last Tuesday 7-2, the Quitman Bulldogs showed up ready for revenge on Friday. The Bulldogs dominated offensively and claimed the win with the 10-run rule enforced, beating Chapel Hill 12-2.

The game began slowly, with no scoring until Chapel Hill got on the scoreboard after a passed ball in the top of the third inning. The Bulldogs remained quiet at the plate until the bottom of the fourth inning when they scored two runs.

Designated hitter Tommy Drinkwine reached second base on an error while Davis Watson scored to tie the game 1-1. Drinkwine scored when Payton Sapp got to first on an error by the third baseman. The Bulldogs ended the inning leading 2-1.

Finally finding their groove at the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning, Quitman scored six runs. Watson capitalized on an error by Winona’s second baseman, making it to first base and scoring Canin Peppers. Klayton Meadows scored when Drinkwine walked, loading the bases. Johnny Mullican hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, scoring Carter Smith.  Sapp hit a double that scored Watson. A sacrifice fly to centerfield from Weston Pence scored Drinkwine. Kameran Crockett followed with a hard ground ball to shortstop, scoring Sapp. The inning ended with the Bulldogs leading 8-1.

Chapel Hill scored a run in the top of the sixth inning courtesy of a fielder’s choice to Sapp. The Bulldogs scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Watson started things off with a double to left field. Drinkwine followed with another single to left field that scored Davis. Drinkwine’s pinch runner, Lane Harkins, crossed the plate with Sapp’s double to left. Pence rounded out the scoring with a single that scored Sapp and Mullican.

After a series this week with Harmony (home game Friday), the Bulldogs wrap up the regular season with Mineola, there on the 23rd and at home on the 26th.
