The Quitman varsity Bulldogs powered past Prairiland in non-district baseball on Monday, March 4 in an offensive battle winning 10-8.

The Bulldogs rallied from an 8-4 deficit to get the win.

A walk, single and sacrifice bunt put Prairiland in business to open the game. A sacrifice fly got the first run across and and error brought in another for a 2-0 lead.

Davis Watson reached on an error, Tommy Drinkwine walked, and Payton Sapp doubled to score Watson, but three outs ended the threat with Quitman down 2-1.

Neither team managed any action in the second.

The Patriots loaded the bases at the start of the third inning on two walks and a dropped third strike. A line drive double to left field cleared the bases. A single put two runners aboard, and a one-out single added two more runs.

A pitching change followed a walk and a hit batter, and a passed ball brought in another run.

Quitman was down 8-1.

The Bulldogs started the comeback with a pair of runs.

Klayton Meadows singled down the first base line. Davis Watson grounded out to second base, but Meadows advanced to third. Drinkwine walked and Sapp singled in Meadows and Drinkwine. The Bulldogs’ rally was cut short with a double play that ended the inning down 8-3.

Jonas Prather held Prairiland scoreless in the fourth.

Canin Peppers started the fourth inning hitting a line drive to center, and Weston Pence singled to the pitcher. An error by the Patriot pitcher allowed Pence to continue to second and Peppers scored. The Bulldogs ended the inning down 8-4.

A three-up, three-down inning followed for Prairiland.

Watson scored on a passed ball and Landon Green hit a double to right field. Courtesy runner Carter Smith advanced to third base on a passed ball and Peppers walked. The Patriots brought in a new pitcher and Smith scored before Pence grounded out to first base. The Bulldogs ended the fifth down 8-6.

Prather struck out the first three batters in the sixth.

After two quick outs, the Bulldogs rallied and took advantage of walks and Patriot errors.

Meadows walked and stole second. Watson reached on an error by the centerfielder. Meadows scored on the play. Watson advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an error by the third baseman to tie the game 8-8.

Drinkwine and Sapp walked. As Landon Green batted, Drinkwine stole third base and Sapp stole second. Green walked, loading the bases. Peppers walked, scoring Drinkwine. Pence walked, which allowed Sapp to score and the Bulldogs led 10-8.

The top of the 7th inning started with a Patriot walk and single to left that allowed the runner to advance to third. The next batter popped out to second baseman Sapp, who threw home to catcher Kameran Crockett who tagged out the advancing runner. The game ended with Prather striking out the next batter.

The Bulldogs ended their week at the Edgewood tournament, going 1-3, including a 6-5 win over Muenster.
