Bruce A. Sutter 1956-2023

Posted

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce A. Sutter, known to all his friends as “Slick,” who left this world on Nov. 10, 2023.

Slick was born on March 8, 1956, and his presence graced our lives as long as we knew him. Bruce was born in Brookfield, Conn. and was proceeded in death by his parents, George and Yvette Sutter, both from New Jersey. Bruce went to trade school to be a machinist and ended up in Texas following the love of his life and settling in Garland sometime in the ‘80s. A work injury necessitated an early retirement for Slick, and in the early 2000s, fate brought him to the East Texas area to put down roots in Alba where he would remain until his death in 2023.

Slick lived a quiet and private life, leaving behind no known relatives. He liked to work on cars, fish and watch sports on TV. Despite the absence of close family, he touched the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a local handyman and helped many Alba residents with general handyman work, but was also a master craftsman, welder, machinist and mechanic. He could fix just about anything. He was meticulous in his work, and the results often showed his attention to detail. Bruce (Slick) will be remembered for his willingness to help everyone and his overall good spirit despite the many challenges he faced over his lifetime.

A memorial service will be held sometime in March, and friends, acquaintances and anyone who wishes to pay their respects are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers or condolences, we encourage those who knew Bruce Sutter to remember him in their own way. He was great friends with the late James “Slim” Hand, who was a Texas singer/songwriter, and contributions to the Slim Hand Music Foundation in Bruce’s honor can be made at slimhandmusic.org in any amount. The loss of Bruce aka Slick leaves a void in our community, and he will be missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
