Alba-Golden squads grab huge road wins at Cooper
The Alba-Golden Panthers and Lady Panthers came away from Cooper last Friday night with a pair of key basketball wins.
The Lady Panthers took a 45-41 victory to finish the first half of district play with a perfect 6-0 record, coupled with last Tuesday’s 64-28 win over North Hopkins. It was Cooper’s first district loss.
The game was close all the way as the two teams tied 13-13 after one quarter and 20-20 at the half. Alba-Golden squeaked ahead 32-31 after three periods.
After a slow start with the boys game tied 7-7 after one quarter, Alba-Golden put up 22 points in the second quarter and needed them all to take a 29-25 lead at the half.
Things slowed again in the third quarter as the Panthers held on for a 33-31 lead after three quarters and finished it off 46-41.
With last Tuesday’s 46-28 loss to district-leading North Hopkins, the Panthers are 3-1 and tied for second with Boles.
The two schools will meet at Alba-Golden Friday night to conclude the first half of boys district play.
