Alba-Golden falls in bidistrict
The Whitewright Lady Tigers ended the Alba-Golden Lady Panthers’ volleyball season Halloween night at Caddo Mills High School, claiming a bidistrict title with a straight set win.
The Lady Panthers just never settled into a rhythm and were caught reacting to a strong Whitewright attack.
Alba-Golden took the early points as both sides adjusted to the game. They led 5-2, before the Lady Tigers – fueled by three service aces – went on a 9-point run.
Whitewright built a 17-9 lead before Alba-Golden mounted a comeback. Erin Langston’s 6-point service run closed the score to a 3-point margin.
A Langston ace and a Kalli Trimble block helped tie the score at 20. Whitewright scored with an ace, a push shot and a kill down the boundary to take the first set 25-20.
Early in the second set saw the best offensive output of the night for the Lady Panthers. Cacie Lennon recorded two kills and a score on a push shot as Alba-Golden took an early lead.
Whitewright came back to tie the game at 9. As the Lady Tigers began to exploit their height advantage, the Lady Panther’s confidence began to wane. Miscommunications and unforced errors crept into the match. A 9-point run secured the second set 25-14.
Whitewright easily took the third set, as frustration had descended on the Lady Panthers. Alba-Golden could muster only four offensive points in the third set, while the relentless Tiger attack forced ten Lady Panther errors. The set concluded 25-10.
