Three Mineola projects finalized

The Mineola City Council put the final stamp of approval on three major city projects Monday.

And two of them came with a small rebate to the city.

The final change order for the Park Central road project was approved, and it included a decrease of $89,613 for the cost of extending the street.

The project had the dual purposes of connecting the new housing addition to Bromberg St. and giving industrial park tenant Morrow Renewables better access to its expanded facilities.

The second project, major improvements to the city sewer plant, included a $51,183 rebate.

Now that those improvements have been completed, the city can move ahead with its joint project with Wood County for a septic receiving station.

The county will pay for the project with part of its federal COVID relief funds, and the city will operate it.

It will be the first such station in Wood County.

The final project, the 1888 Plaza at S. Johnson and Commerce Streets, will be dedicated Saturday at 9 a.m.

It includes restrooms, charging stations and shaded picnic areas.

It was also funded in part with the city’s federal COVID dollars as well as a grant from the Meredith Foundation.

The council also addressed several property matters Monday.

The request for a specific use permit for a manufactured home at 721 Walnut was approved.

An alley between Jones and Engle Streets in the 400 block of McDaniel St. was abandoned at the request of Brady Chambers who plans to build town homes in the area.

A request from Brian Steck to replat his properties on Shelton, Bromberg and Baker Streets was approved.

Plans for the site include mini-warehouses and commercial buildings.

The replat of lots on Wells St. was approved.
