Roy David Faubion, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023. Life Celebration will be held at First United Methodist Church in Quitman at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18 followed by a reception in JOY Hall.

A lifelong radio professional, public speaker, community leader, loyal to family and friends and very involved in his church and community – this describes Roy Faubion. His radio career began in high school. The ’50s and ’60s were the fun times in radio. He got to work with all the “greats,”artists like Elvis and Buddy Holly, peddling their records to convince the DJs to play them on the air.

Public speaking was a gift. He loved to act as master of ceremonies and speak at community, church and family events. Not only was Roy a great storyteller, he was an avid writer and proficient in almost all forms of the written word. His writings include news stories, weekly columns, plays, letters, bible lessons and sermons. He enjoyed writers club, loved participating with community theater and East Texas Choral Society.

Community involvement was important to Roy.  He was always a civic booster and involved in helping others put their best foot forward. Roy worked with the founder to start the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. He also served as president of The Chamber of Commerce, supported new business initiatives, supported the American Red Cross, participated in Rotary and Boy Scouts (where he received The Order of the Arrow for his years of service).

Roy loved and supported his church. He helped form Methodist Men, was a Certified Lay Speaker and participated in the leadership of the church.

Roy was blessed with two 25-year marriages. He was preceded in death by LaJuanda Doris Faubion (1993) and by Janet McGill-Faubion (2019). Also preceding him in death were his parents, William Roy and Ruby Mae Faubion; sister and brother-in-law, Joan Evelyn and Jodie Wayne Howard; step-daughter and husband, Stephanie Jan and Mel Baldoc; and step-grandchild, Todd Hedgepeth.

Roy is survived by his children, Sherry Gale Herrera (husband Roland) and Clayton Wayne Faubion (wife LeighAnn); step-children, Pamela B. Hedgepath, Rebecca M. Bennett (husband Tom) and Robert D. McGill; grandchildren, Jeston Neal Wilson (Lori) and Angela Annette Wilson; step-grandchildren, Somerset Janece Baldoc, Trever McGill Bennett (wife Amy) and Jordan L. Wolfe (husband Brian). Additionally, Roy was blessed with 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

The eternal optimist, Roy always saw blue skies – in spite of the clouds!

His final words of wisdom; “continue the love.”
