Quitman rolls past Chapel Hill

Bulldogs dismantled the visiting Chapel Hill Lady Devils, 16-1, on an overcast, grey morning last Wednesday.

Kennedi Elmore is once again putting in a dominating year in the circle. Her power and placement were spot on as she gave up three hits – which included a Texas Leaguer and an infield hit – struck out seven and allowed only one free pass.

The most damage to Elmore’s pitching came with the lead-off hitter, who blasted a triple to center field. She scored on a passed ball and give Chapel Hill an opening lead.

It was the only solid contact by a Lady Devil hitter against Elmore all day.

In the bottom half, it was an Elmore single through the left side that knotted the score having knocked in Addison Marcee from third base.

After setting the Lady Devils down in order in the second inning, the Lady Bulldogs broke the game wide open. Thirteen Quitman batsmen came to the plate in the second, banging out five base hits and putting up nine runs.

A bases-loaded, first pitch double by Kori Hammond topped the inning. Hammond scored shortly thereafter on a fielding error.

Quitman demonstrated some heads up defensive work in the third. They gunned down two Chapel Hill baserunners at third base. The two outs sapped the life out of their opponents.

The Lady Bulldogs added three runs in the third, taking advantage of Chapel Hill passed balls and wild pitches.  The trend continued in the fourth with the visitors gifting two more runs. It was a sharply-hit Larkin Spears liner, however, which drove-in the final run.

The next opportunity to see the Lady Bulldogs is Friday as they host Harmony. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
