We are in the midst of Restaurant Week in Mineola. This is a community helping community event. You get to visit a variety of restaurants and sample their wares. When you choose the event item, a portion of the proceeds are given to support the Mineola Memorial Library in its service to the community.

The library provides material for reading pleasure, information, movies and internet access to name a few. We think it’s a win-win event and hope you participate, get to know our local restaurants and help the library.

Lots of things to celebrate in February. Valentine’s Day of course and we had several books on display for this celebration. We had programs recognizing Lunar New Year. President’s Day is coming up and we have books to mark that occasion. The entire month of February is dedicated to Black History and we have several books about notable African-Americans along with books written by African-Americans. We hope you will stop by and find something related to one of these celebrations that helps you learn something or allows you to go on an adventure without leaving your most comfortable reading nook.

The Elizabeth Denton English Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution have created a display about our country and reminding us that in just a couple of years, we will be celebrating the 250th birthday of the nation. They even have George Washington himself (OK a representation of him) pointing to our large print books. Please, stop by and admire their efforts.

Toddler Time continues on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. for the 18 month to 3 year old children and their parent/caregivers. Preschool Story Time is on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. for the 3-5ish year old crowd and their parent/caregivers. Home-school Heroes will meet on Friday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. to Innovate with Legos.

We hope to see you soon.

The library is located at 301 N. Pacific St. in Mineola and is open Tuesday to Saturday at 9 a.m. with closing times varying. The library is a 501(c)3, non-profit and your donations may be tax-deductible.
