Holiday beer garden plans up in the air
Plans for a beer garden during the Hometown Christmas event Saturday, Dec. 2 in downtown Quitman were approved by the city council Thursday.
But it may not happen.
The chamber had sought a special event permit to have Dani’s Sidekicks Restaurant operate the garden.
But Dani’s withdrew from the event earlier in the day on Thursday, and the chamber is working to see if it can find another vendor with the proper permit, including the possibility of offering free beverages.
The garden would be limited to beer and wine within a specified area of the festival, and alcohol could be taken outside the festival area. Quitman police will be on hand to help regulate the festival area.
The event is planned from noon-8 p.m. on the north side of the courthouse square with food trucks, vendors, live music, a parade at 5 p.m., live nativity at 7 p.m., ice rink and more.
The city will also host the community Christmas tree lighting Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. on the courthouse square, along with other activities.
