Black history banquet to present honors

East Chapel CME Church in Mineola and Anthony Wright Productions are putting on a black history awards banquet Saturday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Mineola High School multi-purpose facility.

Dinner will be served at 6 p.m. with awards ceremony beginning promptly at 6:30.

Wright said local citizens will be receiving awards in a variety of categories including religious, education, memorial, music, entrepreneur, civic and community.

Tickets are $15. Entertainment will be provided by Janet Turner and Steve Harding of Terrell. The event serves as a fundraiser for the church and has previously been held at the church.

Tickets may be purchased from Joe McCorvey, Gwen Foster and Eddie Wooten.

Special Olympics returns in style

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
