For the March sales tax report, which primarily reflects purchases made in January, Wood County shows a 18.5% decrease from March 2025 sales to March 2026 sales. However, this 18.5% reflects only $30,000 difference between the 2026 $471,573 payments and the 2025 $502,366 payments.

The loss is largely localized to Mineola, which showed a 10.82% decrease to $221,182. However, Yantis also had a 7.19% decrease ($10,503); Winnsboro, a 6.78% decrease ($99,459); and Alba, a 3.36% decrease ($26,229).

Cities that showed an upswing in the March report were mostly just holding steady. Quitman, at 4.61%, was the highest increase, having gone from $67,715 in 2025 to $70,842 this year. Hawkins was the second-highest increase, coming in at 4.59% for a $1,903 increase to $43,359. Only two cities showed an increase.

The county, however, also increased, showing a March 2026 increase of 6.20%. This is a $15,000 change, as the county’s collections went from $230,821 last year to $245,149 this year.

Year-to-date, the county and its cities show a positive change. The overall change between the two is a positive 6.18%, from $ 2,525,213 last year to $2,651,780 this year.
