Jason Slagle of Peoples Telephone was welcomed as a new board member of the Wood County Economic Development Commission last week. He replaces Kevan Burroughs.

The commission heard the annual report from Executive Director Christine Thomas, who reviewed various events in which the commission was a participant or sponsor.

Among the upcoming events is the dedication of the runway extension of the county airport, to be held Oct. 23.

Also in the works is better signage for the airport on Hwy. 37.

The board voted to be a sponsor of the Quitman-Lake Fork Kiwanis Club Bingo during the Old Settlers Reunion. Oct. 30-Nov. 1.

Pam Swanner reported that the tourism committee is working on having walking tour maps available for every city.
