Wood County Arboretum schedules open house at historic home

Add a special twinkle to the holidays next week with a visit to the Wood County Arboretum and Botanical Gardens’ Christmas Open House.

Seasonal touches being added to the venue should make a visit to the 1869 Stinson House a memorable “step-back-in-time” experience that should not be missed, said Deanna Caldwell, president of Friends of the Arboretum, which oversees the grounds.

“We’ve had a very productive year, and we are very excited to treat people to this fun event again,” Caldwell said. “Our volunteers have gone all out to create a wonderful holiday experience using an abundance of natural elements in our decorations. We hope people will come out and experience what this unique setting has to offer.”

This holiday event is set for 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, on the grounds of the arboretum, 175 Governor Hogg Pkwy.  in Quitman and features live music and refreshments.

Festivities are free and open to the public, although donations are always welcome and appreciated, organizers said.

This year the open house will also feature new eye-catching, branded gift shop items that make perfect stocking stuffers.

The arboretum is comprised of a 23-acre venue, which features a walking trail, tribute plantings and themed gardens.
