Winnsboro routs Lone Oak 59-8
Winnsboro pushed its non-district record to 3-0 with a 59-8 blowout over Lone Oak on Sept. 10 at Red Raider Stadium.
The Raider offense generated 631 total yards, with 351 yards rushing and 280 yards passing. It was a big-play kind of night as quarterback Ky Caddell delivered touchdown passes of 69 yards to Kash Noble, 60 yards to RJ Woodfaulk and 29 yards to Neree Castleberry in the first half.
A pair of rushing touchdowns, Castleberry’s 49-yard ramble and Caddell’s 12-yard scramble, plus a 22-yard field goal by Rudy Calderon rounded out the Raiders’ 38-point first half.
The second half produced more of the same as Winnsboro rang up the Buffaloes’ defense on a 44-yard run by Catch Pope, a 38-yard romp by quarterback Cy Erickson and an 80-yard explosion by an untouched Chance Arrington. Calderon went 8-for-8 on PATs.
The opportunistic Red Raider defense was flying around from the start and disrupted the Buffaloes at every turn with continuous pressure. Defensive lineman Eli Groter recovered a Lone Oak fumble to set the tone early, and defensive back Callen Lewis closed it out with a fourth-quarter interception in the end zone.
In a well-rounded effort overall, Castleberry, Groter, Marshall Bassett and Arrington led the team in tackles. Winnsboro recorded 10 tackles for loss.
“We played very well in all three phases of the game. We fixed a lot of mistakes we had been making. Very proud of the guys with their effort and attitude,” head coach and boys athletic director Josh Finney said.
“The big linemen were able to rotate in and continue to get some depth there and they played very well in the trenches,” Finney said.
The Red Raiders will travel to Hooks for a Sept. 18 contest. The Hornets are one of the most consistent teams in the region and can always be counted on to mount a solid challenge.
The Hornets tagged Mineola for 89 points in the season opener and followed with a one-point loss to a 3-0 Shelbyville team before falling to Kingston, Oklahoma, last week.
“Their O-line is big with an exceptional running back that is patient and hard-nosed. They have very long and tall defensive ends that will present a problem if we let them come after us. We will have our hands full if we don’t play well in all phases,” said Finney.
Always well-stocked with athletes, the 2026 Hornets boast an offensive line with good size and considerable varsity experience.
Players to watch include Cruz Juarez (62) and Caden Mobley (55).
Quarterback Kavon Stiger (3) has exceptional mobility and can rip off large chunks with his legs when the opportunity presents itself. Running back Corbin Edwards (2) logged 355 yards and five touchdowns against Mineola in the season opener. Terence Gooden (1) is a top receiver and proven kick returner.
Cooper Eaves (50) and Camron Fields (16) are leading tacklers. Defensive lineman Trent Hanes sports a 6-foot-5 frame, and Fields measures 6-foot-3, with both capable of disrupting an opponent’s game plan.
