Voter registration deadline Monday for Nov. 4
Monday, Oct. 6 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 4 election. In addition to 17 amendments to the state constitution on the ballot, voters in the Hawkins school district will also decide the fate of a tax ratification election.
The vote will determine whether the district can increase the property tax rate.
The ballot language is as follows:
“This is a property tax increase. Ratifying the ad valorem tax rate for maintenance and operations of $0.6992 per $100 taxable assessed valuation in Hawkins Independent School District for the current year, a rate that will result in an increase of 24.88 percent in maintenance and operations tax revenue for the district for the current year as compared to the preceding year, which is an additional $1,097,426.60.”
Early voting will be held only at the county elections office in Quitman for the school district and the constitutional amendments.
Early voting dates and times are as follows:
Monday, Oct. 20-Friday, Oct. 24, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Monday, Oct. 27 to Wednesday, Oct. 29, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 30-Friday, Oct. 31, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
