The Greater Quitman Area Chamber of Commerce and Quitman’s Hometown Christmas Committee will introduce a new holiday event this year with Light Up Quitman, set for Saturday, Nov. 28, in downtown Quitman.
“Our traditional Thanksgiving lighting celebration is moving to the Saturday after Thanksgiving, giving the community a festive way to kick off the Christmas season,” Megan Whitworth, executive director of the Greater Quitman Area Chamber of Commerce, said.
Light Up Quitman will be held from 4-9 p.m. and will feature Christmas shopping, local businesses, food vendors and holiday activities. The downtown lighting ceremony is scheduled for approximately 6 p.m.
The event will also feature a Christmas market with local businesses, handmade products, boutique items and other merchandise.
Vendor applications are now open for businesses and food vendors interested in participating. Commercial vendor spaces and food truck spaces are $25.
Businesses participating in Quitman’s Hometown Christmas will receive a free vendor space at Light Up Quitman.
Vendor applications for Light Up Quitman and Hometown Christmas are available at quitmancoc.com.
“We’re looking for small businesses, handmade products, boutique items, food vendors and others who have something fun to share with the community. It’s a great opportunity to connect with local shoppers and be part of the first Light Up Quitman celebration,” Whitworth said.
Light Up Quitman will precede Quitman’s Hometown Christmas, which returns Saturday, Dec. 5, at Gov. Jim Hogg City Park.
“We’re looking forward to lighting up downtown Quitman and kicking off the Christmas season with our community,” Whitworth said.
