The Lake Country Playhouse and the Historic Select Theater will present a concert performed by legendary country music star T. G. Sheppard on April 23rd. Sheppard has had 14 number one hits through the 1970’s and 1980’s; eight of those hits were consecutive. Sheppard’s shows are still popular to this day, as theater officials say they are as intimate and lively as ever.  When he performs at the Select Theater on April 23rd, Sheppard will be performing in the oldest continuously operating theater in the South.  Theater director George Jones says that those who attend will have a wonderful view with fantastic sound, and will feel as if he has come into their living room for a “pick and a grin.”  Tickets go on sale later this week.

The Select also announced “the beginning of something very special:”  Amye Cox will be bringing a variety show to the theater’s stage on April 25th at 7:30 p.m.  Cox is a long-time singer, songwriter, and performer in the East Texas music scene.  According to a release from the theater, she has a sizeable following. Cox will be hosting auditions for the variety/talent show on Tuesday, March 3rd and Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at The Annex across from the theater.

Jones says that the variety show will “follow an old school format with a new school vibe and be totally Texan.”

“Come audition and/or come see the show, as we intend it to be a regular thing and a launch pad for some of our local hidden talent to be seen and possibly found, which could happen...after all Kasey Musgraves got her start on this very stage!” said Jones.
