St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church hosts youth-driven MLK Jr. Day service
Pastor Demethrius Boyd says he hopes the community event will bring in other young people and act as a catalyst for Wood County churches.
St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church is holding its popular Martin Luther King, Jr. Day “Unity In Our Community” service.
The service will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19 at the church. Just as they did in 2025, the church is asking their youth — and other youth in the community — to help facilitate and plan the service.
As St. Paul’s pastor Demethrius Boyd said, this is for several reasons: to bring in more youth to the church; to get more young people engaged in ministry or in a relationship with Christ; and to demonstrate to other local churches “different ways to get your youth involved in their relationship with Christ.”
“You don’t have to go outside the cross (to bring in young people),” said Boyd. “You can go outside of the box, but not outside of the cross.”
The church invites the community to come participate in the service and partake of the soups and hot-water cornbread served afterward.
