Singer to add touch of Broadway to symphonic band

Get ready for a summer spectacular with the Lake Country Symphonic Band on Sunday, June 11 at 2 p.m., at the Historic Select Theater in downtown Mineola.

This group will more than entertain, they will amaze. The band will perform a number of pieces – some recognizable, others some may not have heard before.

One will be an original composition by director Kelly Bennette (the 8th in his “Holy Grail” series) and played for the first time at this concert.

There will also be a taste of Broadway as the band accompanies soprano Megan McCorkle Burks singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables, “Memories” from Cats and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” from Evita.

Megan, a native Texan, grew up in Mineola. Showing an early interest in musical theater and opera, she attended the Southern Methodist University School of Music (BA), the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music (MM) and Indiana University (artist diploma). Megan began her career professionally at age 23, singing leading and supporting roles in the United States and Europe including Opera Memphis, Utah Opera, Cincinnati Opera and Indianapolis Opera along with several programs and festivals in Italy and France. Megan resides with her family in Plano.

This concert is for one performance only, so be sure to get tickets before they sell out. They can be purchased at lakecountryplayhouse.com (scroll down to Lake Country Symphonic Band, click the “Find Out More” box, then click “Tickets”).
